June Jingles

Every June I watch the College Baseball World Series on television and enjoy the amazing display of athletic talent on the field. Something not so pleasant is the abundance of annoying commercials scattered throughout each game. For a multitude of reasons the sight of people dancing and singing about medicine, insurance, and cellphone services makes me push the mute button on my remote control. The truth is I tap that button for all commercials, and my stomach wishes a blackout button existed for food advertisements. After a three-hour baseball game and a dozen hamburger and pizza commercials, I’m craving both caloric giants. Another truth is simple and catchy advertising jingles no longer exist. The days of memorable phrases like “Where’s the beef?” and “I’m stuck on Band-Aids, and Band-Aids are stuck on me” disappeared along with telephone landlines and television picture tubes.
So, what’s my point? Nothing of importance. Just a summer rant about a trivial subject. Consider it my version of a television commercial, worthless and a complete waste of your good time. But I do appreciate you giving me a few minutes of your day.
What’s one of your pet peeves?
