Big Orange Buffet

On this hot and humid Southern-Fried Friday, I’m seeing orange—as in the orange blooms of butterfly weed dotting the open fields in the valley below my house. The native perennial is a magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds, so invite them to dine in your yard by planting one of their favorite sources of nectar. With long-lasting blooms and sturdy stems, the flower is a winner for gardens and floral arrangements. Plus the bright orange color attracts plenty of human fans where I live, seeing it’s the signature color of our local university sports teams. Go Big Orange!
