Where is the Best Place to Bicycle?

Where is the best place to bicycle? This summer my vote goes to the Cades Cove loop road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Thanks to a Park Service policy change, the road is closed to motorized vehicles from dawn to dusk every Wednesday through September 16. Bikers and hikers now have all day to wander through one of the prettiest places on earth, in my humble biased opinion. So gather up the camera equipment and dust off those bicycles because a day of adventure awaits along 11 miles of paved road in the heart of the Smokies.

Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch and plenty of water so you can take your time and enjoy nature’s surprises popping up around every bend in the road. This past Wednesday we saw two black bear mothers and their cubs, deer, turkeys, fields of wildflowers, and scores of songbirds—plus lots of smoke (aka clouds) on the mountain tops. What a great way to spend the day and recall precious memories of our family camping trips in the Cove years ago. Happy Father’s Day to all the men creating priceless memories for the children in their lives like my father did for me and my sister.

What outdoor adventures do you have planned for the summer?
