I don’t see many handmade doilies nowadays, but when I do precious memories come to mind of my grandmother’s house years ago. Handmade doilies protected lamp bases from scratching tables and added a decorative touch to every piece of furniture. Some of them were crocheted, and others were tatted, an older and more intricate weaving of finer thread or yarn—almost a lost art today. The heart patterns always caught my fancy because of their elaborate designs, perhaps a special way to say “I love you” then and now. May your heart be filled with love on this coming Valentine’s Day.
