Mission Impossible

I received this Christmas card in the mail and instantly loved it. A simple picture perfectly capturing what Christmas is all about. And everything about it deemed impossible then and now based on human reasoning—a virgin birth, God in an earthly body, a personal relationship with God through his spirit living in us.

When the angel Gabriel told teenage Mary she would give birth to God’s son and his kingdom would never end, her response was “How will this be since I am a virgin?” Gabriel’s reply was specific for Mary and eternal for everyone else. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you . . . For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:26-38.

Today, our mission, if we accept it, is to believe nothing is impossible with God. Mary did by answering with a humble faith that changed eternity, “May it be to me as you have said.” This year as you gather with family and friends, may all of you have a blessed and merry Christmas filled with faith, love, and joy. Just like the first Christmas many years ago.
